Donald Trump has publicly backed Benjamin Netanyahu for a second time in the final days before Israel’s election, coupling the endorsement with a warning that the United States may have to handle the Iran confrontation alone if the prime minister loses.
The president posted the message on Truth Social on Sunday evening. He asked voters to remember that Netanyahu, whom he called Bibi, has been an outstanding warrior prime minister. Trump stated that he and Netanyahu have been winning together, citing Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury as evidence of their partnership.
The timing of the post follows reports that Netanyahu has intensified his efforts to secure fresh support from Washington. Two American sources told The Jerusalem Post that Netanyahu and his allies within Trump’s inner circle increased pressure for new statements of support. The sources described the prime minister’s behavior as showing signs of political desperation, a level of urgency they had not seen before.
An earlier report from Axios provided further details on the direct contacts between the two leaders. It stated that Trump and Netanyahu spoke twice over the past three days. According to an Israeli source briefed on the discussions, Netanyahu suggested specific wording for the endorsements and proposed that Trump speak with Israeli journalists to repeat his support.
Trump’s message included a specific threat regarding the election outcome. He wrote that if Israel elects anyone other than Netanyahu, America will have to do the job itself, and that he is not inclined to do that. The Jerusalem Post noted that this remark referred to the ongoing confrontation with Iran.
The endorsement serves as both a tribute to Netanyahu’s leadership and a direct appeal to voters. It positions the election as a binary choice between continuing the current strategy or forcing the United States to take a more active role in the region.
Voters in Israel are scheduled to cast their ballots in the coming days. The election will determine whether Netanyahu remains in office to continue the policies outlined in his recent diplomatic exchanges with the White House.
