Moviegoers across the United Kingdom and Ireland spent £2.4 million ($3.2 million) last weekend to watch 'Ghosts: The Possession of Button House.' The Lionsgate production secured the top position on the box office chart, marking its strongest opening in the territory. The film’s performance placed it ahead of major studio releases from Warner Bros. and Amazon MGM Studios.
Warner Bros.' DC horror thriller 'Clayface' opened in second place with $2.6 million. In third, Amazon MGM Studios' comedy 'Ali G: Who Iz I?' generated $1.7 million. Black Bear's animated fantasy 'Wildwood,' directed by Travis Knight, took fourth with $1.36 million. Paramount's 'Street Fighter' moved down to fifth in its second weekend, adding $1.35 million to reach a cumulative total of $5.6 million.
Universal's 'Forgotten Island' held steady in sixth place with $1.2 million, bringing its total to $3.7 million. Sony's 'Verity' ranked seventh in its fourth week, earning $857,067. The Colleen Hoover adaptation now stands at $14.4 million. Universal's 'Other Mommy' followed in eighth with $576,822, totaling $6.2 million.
Mubi's 'Fatherland' debuted in ninth place across 86 theaters. It earned $264,083 for a screen average of $3,144, the fourth highest among new releases. Including previews, the drama's total opening reached $415,017. This surpasses Paweł Pawlikowski's previous record for 'Cold War' in the region. Studiocanal's 'Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom' finished the top ten in its sixth week with $408,089, for a cumulative $6.1 million.
Mubi also released the documentary 'Making Marie Antoinette' on six screens. It earned $1,737 over the weekend, raising its total to $24,355. This limited release precedes Park Circus's re-release of Sofia Coppola's 2006 feature 'Marie Antoinette' on Nov. 13.
Theatrical programming begins Tuesday with Trafalgar Releasing's broadcast of the Royal Ballet's 'Manon.' Wednesday brings the music documentary 'Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning' to more than 100 locations. A wide slate of new films hits 300-plus screens Friday. Disney's 'Everest: The Other Side' and A24's 'Primetime' lead the commercial releases. 'Primetime' stars Robert Pattinson, Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Other Friday additions include Black Bear's 'Wicker' and Kaleidoscope Entertainment's 'Arnie & Barney.' Universal releases 'I Love Boosters,' directed by Boots Riley and starring Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Demi Moore, and LaKeith Stanfield. The weekend concludes Saturday with a live viewing of the BTS World Tour 'Arirang' in Sao Paulo.
